Coconut Margarita

by Amy Stafford on September 1, 2012

Last weekend we went out with friends and we stopped at a local bar and my friend Nicole and I ordered a Coconut Margarita, made with Coconut Tequila.  I had no idea such a thing existed, but I quickly learned I am glad that it does!  This drink was as good as I remembered it when I made it at home!  Yummy and Dangerous! :)

1800 a maker of Tequila released their new Coconut flavored Tequila earlier this year (It even smells good and I love the bottle).  I really recommend picking up a bottle to add to your home bar.  I asked the guy at our spirits store if he has been selling a lot and he said its becoming one of their top sellers this summer.  So I say this is the perfect drink to celebrate the end of summer with this weekend.

  • 2 cups ice
  • 3/4 cup coconut cream (I used Coco Lopez Lite 40% less fat)
  • 4 1/2 oz 1800 Coconut Tequila
  • 1 1/2 oz triple sec (or Grand Marnier)
  • 1/4 cup sweetened flaked coconut

In a blender combine ice, coconut cream, tequila and triple sec. Blend until desired texture.

On a separate plate, sprinkle coconut flakes and wet the rims of your margarita glasses. Dip the rims of the glasses onto the coconuts. Pour blended margarita into garnished glasses and enjoy.  I sure did!
