Clematis are beautiful flowering perennial plants. I have several growing around here and I always love their appearance in the spring.  The flowers are huge and the colors are so vibrant!

Most of the species of clematis are climbers, similar to vines. Clematis vines will grow to heights of twenty feet or more, if given proper growing conditions and enough support. Most clematis vines require full sun, but some can also grow well in partial and even full shade.

I have one growing in full shade that is blooming now.  Two that I train on the fence around my vegetable garden that are in full sun, which have not bloomed yet.

I really encourage you to grow your own.  They are low maintenance and non-invasive.  I have seen them for sale around here at the local nurseries, so pick one up and give it a grow! :)

O’ Clematis

O’ my sweet clematis,
so pretty hanging near me,
you look so parched,
its my water you seek,

O’ my sweet clematis,
beautiful purple petals,
so fragrant to me,
in a vine, beauty hanging to peek.

O’ my sweet clematis,
your bloom so short,
I want your blooms,
to never stop.

O’ my sweet clematis,
pretty flower so neat,
don’t stop your blooming,
when i take up your seat,

Flower of the orient,
you bring joy to my day,
when autumn whither your flowers away,
Come back to me in spring.

Your clematis are stunning! This is the first year for mine to bloom. If you grow them from tubers, they take a while to get going. But I think when they do, they really go to town. :-)

Good luck, I hope you get blooms this year. It is such a joy to see them blooming.
