Fig Preserve

Do you love Figs?  Then make some Fig Preserve.  Great on your oatmeal, toast, sammie, in your smoothie, and on top of cheese.  I could go on and on, but you get it.  Make this Fig Preserve.

Fig Preserve

I have been so thrilled with the Figs that I have found at the market that I can’t stop buying them.  Though why would I not want to buy them?  Figs are luscious and sweet, and a great source of potassium the mineral that helps to control blood pressure and help our muscles to recover after a tough workout.  Since many people not only do not eat enough fruits and vegetables but do consume high amounts of sodium as salt is frequently added to processed foods, they may be deficient in potassium.

The unfortunate thing about fresh figs is that they don’t have a long shelf life, usually 3 days, so you need to gobble them up soon after you bring them home.  I came up with this simple but delicious gluten free fig preserve to help our family to enjoy the for weeks to come.  I find this perfect on my morning pancakes or oatmeal.  You can also use it on your toast, or in your grilled cheese or as a sweet topping on your grilled chicken.

Don’t miss my other fantastic fig recipes at the bottom of the post.  You can never have too many delicious fig recipes! Enjoy.

  1. Have you attempted this with frozen, thawed this? They sell bags at trader Joe’s. I love the idea but fresh figs are expensive.

  3. Amy, planted my first fig plant this spring. Can’t wait until it starts bearing fruit. Thanks for all the recipes.
