Creamy Garlic Mashed Potatoes Recipe

Garlic Mashed Potatoes are a must in my house when choosing Thanksgiving side dishes. Everything else is negotiable year to year, but potatoes always find a way to stay on the menu.

The big problem is that they can take way too much time to cook while you’re busy juggling a turkey, green beans, rolls, and pumpkin pie. So, I developed this recipe to be ready in under 25-minutes. Quick and easy, this may be the best-mashed potatoes you’ll ever try!

The key to the success of this recipe is Finlandia Black Garlic Gourmet Cheese. It adds incredible garlic flavor, and the cheese gives the potatoes a smooth, creamy texture that’s to die for. Ther’s no need for a bunch of different ingredients when this one does so much to develop fantastic flavor!

These Garlic Mashed Potatoes are loaded with a ton of cheesy-garlic flavor and are creamy and delicious. It all comes from Finlandia Cheese. I promise you won’t be disappointed in its taste or quality if you’ve never tried it before.

What You’ll Need

With only five ingredients, these garlic mashed potatoes come together really easily. Scroll down to the recipe card for actual amounts of each.

  • Red Potatoes – Leave the skin on for more nutrients and great texture. Cut each potato into quarters.
  • Finlandia Black Garlic Cheese Spread – This cheese spread gives the mashed potatoes fabulous garlic flavor and helps keep them nice and smooth.
  • Milk
  • Salt
  • Fresh Herbs – We’ll use fresh parsley and thyme.

How to Make Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Using Finlandia’s black garlic cheese spread makes this garlic mashed potatoes recipe quick and easy. Ready in only 25-minutes, the potatoes are easy enough to make during the week but tasty enough to stand as one of your Thanksgiving side dishes. Here’s how to make them.

  • Cook the Potatoes. Place the quartered potatoes in a Dutch oven or large pot and add cold water to cover them completely. Bring to a boil and cook uncovered for 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. You should be able to easily pierce them with a butter knife.
  • Mash the Potatoes. Once fully cooked, drain the potatoes in a colander and return them to the pan. Using a potato masher, mash the potatoes until they have a nice chunky consistency. If you like them smoother, you can continue mashing a bit more.
  • Stir in all the Tasty Additions. Stir in the garlic cheese spread, milk, salt, and fresh herbs. Mix everything together with a wooden spoon or spatula until well combined. If you want your potatoes a little thinner, feel free to add additional milk until you reach the consistency you like. Serve and enjoy!

Tips for Success

  • Use Red Potatoes. While you can technically use any potato in this recipe, I like the flavor and texture of red potatoes. And don’t peel them. The red skins are so soft and delicious that there’s no need to remove them. Plus, a huge portion of the potato’s nutrition lives in the skins.
  • Cut Your Potatoes in Even Pieces. I like to quarter my potatoes to lower the cooking time. But the most important thing is to ensure the pieces are all relatively the same size. This will allow them to cook evenly and be ready all together.
  • Add More Garlic. If you really want to amp up the garlic flavor in these easy mashed potatoes, add 1-2 teaspoons of garlic powder OR a couple of cloves of roasted garlic.

Storage and Reheating Instructions

Leftover mashed potatoes will stay fresh in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. When you’re ready to eat, reheat a portion in the microwave for 30-60 seconds. Give the potatoes a stir to ensure they’re heated all the way through. Serve and enjoy!
