Fresh Figs have started arriving and I will eat as many as I can.  I take after my father for my love of the fresh fig.  He used to enjoy them as his dessert when they were in season, I vividly remember my Mom bringing him a bowl of freshly sliced figs drizzled in honey.

One of the magical things about figs is that they go well with sweet and salty.

Topping figs on your morning oatmeal with a drizzle of honey elevates an already healthy breakfast to wicked healthy.

Figs are not only delicious but also a fiber-rich food that is loaded with calcium, magnesium, and potassium.  Figs also contain pectin, which does a great job of filling you up to help you fight hunger pains and aiding in cleaning up your digestion tract and cleaning out cholesterol from your body.

Also, fresh figs are lower in sugar than dried, so when you can always go with fresh figs.

Fig AND cacao? Yum, that reminds me of this larabar-esque bar we had back in Australia- I can only imagine how delicious it would taste on some oats!

I’ve never tried fresh figs before! I used some dried ones in a candy recipe once and thought that they were odd but I’m guessing fresh would be better. 🙂 They look great in this oatmeal!
