A winter storm hit here in Cincinnati yesterday, starting to really snow about noon. In Cincinnati you would think that the world is coming to an end if there is a snow storm. People go to the grocery store to stock up on water, milk and food, worrying they might be stuck in their homes for days. The weather man is predicting 5-6″. Yep 5-6″ inches. Not blizzard conditions.
I grew up in Columbus Ohio and when I was seven years old the Blizzard of 77″ hit. Our house had snow drifts to the front roof line and the back roof line. My older brother who was 18 had to dig a hole out a window so that we could get out of our house. That is a snow storm, not 5-6″. I actually have fond memories of those days, because we missed school we built fires in all the fireplaces. My brother built me an igloo in one of the snow drifts, I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I remember crying because I wanted to sleep in it and with good reason my Mother said “no”.
We even sledded off our roof onto the drifts because they were so tall. Fun times…
Last week for the holidays I made up a batch of Cranberry Simple Syrup. I used it again in this delicious cocktail. This Sparkling Cranberry Rose cocktail is perfect sweet and bubbly, using Cranberry Simple Syrup and Rose Champagne, which I prefer, but any Champagne will work. . You can grab the Cranberry Simple Syrup recipe (here). Enjoy!
