Mandarin Banana Ginger Smoothie is loaded with antioxidant, vitamin C to help keep your immune system in tip-top shape.

Mandarin Banana Ginger Smoothie

The flu is making a run through Cincinnati and several of my friends have gotten taken down by this year’s influenza.

This Mandarin Banana Ginger smoothie is great for in between meals as a pick me up, but it is also loaded with Vitamin C, A, Potassium and healthy fat which helps our bodies boost up its immune systems.  Also, the ginger in this smoothie offers a bonus because it has historically been known to be very effective in alleviating symptoms of gastrointestinal distress.  Ginger has also been studied for use as a muscle pain reliever and to help with arthritis pain, so this smoothie would be great after an intense muscle workout.

Now that I have told you how wonderful this smoothie is, let me tell you that typically I am not a huge fan of the taste of ginger, but in this smoothie it was delicious.  Adapt the amount added based on your like of ginger.  I added a bit less than 1/2 teaspoon for myself.

Because this root offers so many health benefits I try to add it into my weekly diet where I can.   A little goes a long way with ginger, so grab a root in your local grocery store and store it in the refrigerator to pull out and use in your seafood, soups, smoothies and teas.  To use ginger, use the end of a spoon and scrape off the skin of the area you plan on using.  Then cut and slice or grate the ginger.
