Who doesn’t love pumpkin? If you are like me you love pumpkin and can’t wait till fall rolls around so you have an excuse to eat as many pumpkin recipes as you can. You probably know that it isn’t so much the pumpkin that gives our favorite fall recipes that flavor we all love, but the mixture of spices that are synonymous with pumpkin, better known as pumpkin spice mix. Why not make up your own Pumpkin Spice mix up with spices you probably already have on hand.
Fall slammed into Cincinnati a week ago and I mean slammed. Friday I was in shorts and a tank top and then our evening temperature dropped down into the 30’s and Saturday the wind was a blustering and I was freezing in my winter coat and scarf. Lucky for me that I and the hubby are in sunny Florida this week to celebrate our anniversary. I am back in my shorts and tanks, soaking up some last moment Vitamin D before we head back to Cincinnati and the cooler fall temps.
Even with the cool temperatures, fall is my favorite season. I love the beauty of the season and all the amazing foods that we eat with the upcoming holidays.
Since I am such a pumpkin nut, I wrote this recipe for a pretty good portion of pumpkin spice mix, but I keep the little glass container close at hand, right on the counter next to the salt and pepper. It will last you all throughout the holiday season and into the New Year. You can use the mix in your baked goods, I especially love it in my pancakes, or a sprinkle in your smoothies, pies, and great on your sweet potatoes.
