Why You’ll Love This Green Smoothie Recipe

If you’re a morning smoothie sort of person for breakfast, this creamy green smoothie with spicy cinnamon is perfect for you.

  • Freezer-friendly. Pop it out of the freezer and straight into the blender for an almost-instant sip.
  • Single serving. Don’t worry about leftovers because this recipe is perfect for a one-person breakfast.
  • Plant-based. Using almond milk or coconut milk instead of dairy products gives you the same creaminess.
  • Quick. Breakfast will be ready in literally 5 minutes!

What You’ll Need

Raw honey and earthy cinnamon give this green smoothie its lovely sweet notes. Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact amounts.

  • Apples – They should cored and peeled Granny Smiths.
  • Baby spinach – Regular spinach is fine too but remove the stems.
  • Chia seeds – Flaxseed works too.
  • Honey – Agave nectar and maple syrup are good swaps.
  • Cinnamon – Feel free to use ground nutmeg.
  • Almond milk – Make sure it’s unsweetened plain almond or coconut milk.
  • Ice – Crushed ice is best.
Adding the ingredients to the blender.

Variation Ideas

Switch things up with your green smoothie by adding mango, tart berries, creamy yogurt, or protein powder.

  • Make it tropical. Add 1/4 cup diced mango, peaches, or pineapple into the blender for a tropical twist. They can be canned if you rinse and drain them well.
  • Berry green smoothie. Toss 1/4 cup raspberries, blackberries, or blueberries into the smoothie ingredients. A frozen berry mix works too.
  • Make it creamier. Add 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt to the mixture for a richer, smoother consistency.
  • More superfoods. 1 teaspoon spirulina and 1/4 cup diced avocado will load you up on more superfood goodness.
  • Make it heartier. Add a scoop of vanilla or strawberry protein powder into the smoothie ingredients for an extra hearty breakfast drink.
  • More greens. 1/4 cup chopped celery, 1/2 tablespoon chopped fresh mint, and 1/2 tablespoon parsley can give your green smoothie an extra green boost.

Can I Make This In Advance?

Absolutely! The method depends on how far in advance you want to make it.

  • Fridge: Store it in a mason jar or glass for up to 3 days. Stir gently before serving.
  • Freezer: Make freezer packs by pouring the smoothie into a Ziploc bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge. You can also blend it straight from frozen and just add 1/2 cup more milk into the mixture.

I usually eat pretty healthy (contrary to all my blog posts on desserts!) Lately, especially since Halloween passed, I have found myself feeling blah. I have cut back on my sugars (not entirely out, but definitely cut back) and I can feel the difference! I have never been a smoothie person but this sounds really good and something I would enjoy!
